Electrical troubleshooting
DraftHow to diagnose an unresponsive throttle and other common Onyx RCR electrical faults.
Unresponsive throttle
- The most common cause is a stuck left brake lever. It triggers the brake light and regen, and regen blocks the throttle signal. Release the lever.
- If the lever is free, peel back the rubber boot at the lever’s brake light switch. If the two connectors are touching, that mimics a pulled lever. Reconnect them to the switch.
- Open the side panel and check for a wire that has worked loose from a connector. This is rare, usually after tugging on the harness.
- Brake fluid or other corrosive liquid spilled on the throttle can ruin it. The fix is a new throttle.
Horn or running lights dead
Check whether a connector has come apart and reattach it.
Safety
The high-voltage wiring has orange sleeving. Do not touch, remove, or replace it. After the bike is off, the cables can hold charge for up to 60 seconds. In a fire, use a Class D extinguisher on visible flame, then douse with a water-based one.
Controller fault light
The CTY2 manual says the speed controller shows a green light when there are no issues and a flashing red light for a controller or motor error. It points to the Kelly KLS-S user manual (V1.10) for the codes. The RCR V2.0 manual says only that its controller has an LED fault code. CONFIRM: Kelly KLS-S flash code table; neither Onyx manual includes it, and the RCR controller maker is not named
The CTY2 manual also lists these: if the horn or running lights fail, reseat connectors. For a wire that has worked out of a connector, it says to remove the battery tray. Support number: (310) 800-2531.
