Performance and controller

Draft

What the Onyx RCR controller and pack are rated for, and why more power needs more than a controller swap.

The V2.0 controller is a 72 V, 3,000 W sine-wave BLDC unit with regen, over-current and over-voltage protection, thermal and current cutback, and Android Bluetooth. The pack is rated 55 A continuous and about 70 A peak under a 3,000 W load.

  • That means the stock pack and wiring are already working near their rated current in Sport.
  • More current needs a pack, BMS, connector, and wiring that can handle it. The pack uses an Anderson 2-pole load connector; see Discharge and charge connectors.
  • The BMS cuts off charging at 4.25 V per cell and discharge at 2.8 V per cell.
  • Onyx warns that modifications and added loads change performance, handling, range, and operation, and that unauthorized modification voids the warranty.
